What our claims mean

We describe Zelvo as conditioning hair, reducing wash-day breakage and leaving the scalp comfortable. Those are cosmetic effects on the hair and skin surface, and that is deliberately the limit of what we claim. We do not claim that Zelvo regrows hair, thickens hair follicles, reverses baldness or treats any medical condition, because no cosmetic oil can do those things.

Where we describe an ingredient’s “traditional use”, we are recording how that botanical has historically been used in South Asian, Unani or Mediterranean practice. That is a statement of cultural history, not a claim of clinical efficacy.

Before you use it

• Patch test: apply a small amount to your inner forearm and wait 24 hours before using it on your scalp.
• For external use only. Do not swallow.
• Avoid contact with the eyes. If it gets in, rinse with plenty of cool water.
• Keep out of reach of children.
• Stop using it immediately if you notice redness, itching, burning or a rash, and contact us — we will refund you regardless of how much is left.
• If you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or being treated for a scalp condition, check with your doctor first.
• Store somewhere cool and dark. Use within 12 months of opening.

When to see a doctor instead

Please see a doctor rather than buying hair oil if you are experiencing sudden or rapid hair loss, hair loss in distinct patches, a painful, scaling or weeping scalp, or hair loss alongside fatigue, weight change or menstrual changes. Iron deficiency and thyroid disorders are common, treatable causes of hair shedding and both are diagnosed with a simple blood test. We wrote about this at length.

Results vary

Hair type, water hardness, diet, health and how consistently you use the product all affect the outcome. Any customer review published on this site describes one person’s experience and is not a prediction of yours.
